With its user-friendly setup and group chat features, it has become a popular tool for virtual movie nights and long-distance hangouts.

The extension is compatible with Chromium-based browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Brave. Once installed, a small “TP” icon appears on the browser toolbar for convenient access. Each participant must install the extension and have an active account on the streaming service being used, as Teleparty does not bypass account necessities or regional restrictions.

How Teleparty Works

Hosting a Teleparty is straightforward. The host opens a video on a supported streaming site, clicks the Teleparty icon, and then starts a party session. After generating a shareable URL, the host can invite up to 50 people. All viewers’ video playback is automatically synchronized, so pausing, rewinding, or fast-forwarding the show will affect everyone’s stream simultaneously.

A real-time side chat is integrated into the experience, allowing group conversations without interrupting the viewing. Each participant can set a nickname and avatar, making it easy to identify who’s who. The chat bar can be toggled on or off according to personal preference.

Limitations and Considerations

Teleparty is currently available only for desktop computers running Windows or macOS. Support for mobile devices, tablets, smart TVs, and gaming consoles is not provided. Links are tied to specific media, so switching to a different episode or movie requires starting a new session. All participants need to be located in regions where the selected streaming service is available and may need their own subscription.
